30 Minutes
Items Needed:
1- 8 Iron, PW, Wedge
2- 5 balls
3- Practice Green
Setup:
1- Place a tee about a yard onto the green, by the mowing strip line you can see around the perimeter
2- Take 3 paces away from that tee onto the chipping area.
Drill:
1- Hit 5 shots with your 8-iron, making sure to land them near that tee on the mow line
2- Pace out the carry disance. The carry distance should be 3 paces, because that’s what we decided to pace from the mow line.
3- Pace out the average roll out distance, from the mow line to the average distance your 5 shots rolled out to.
Mine was 18 paces. So the ball carried 3 paces, and rolled 18, or a ratio of 1:6. So I know, on a flat green, if I chip with an 8 iron, it will roll out 6 times as far as it carries.
4- Now repeat the process for your PW and Lob wedge, and any other club you think this will be useful for. Here’s the ratios I got:
8-Iron: 1:6
PW: 1:4
58*: 1:1
